Understanding Our Design & Manufacturing Process

The process of bringing to life an idea drawn out on a luncheon napkin or conceived during the morning commute, only happens with a company of creative professionals who are experts in their respective fields. Sampco, Inc. has such a creative team of designers and engineers who are experienced in producing award-winning products from humble beginnings.

Sampco's Customer Service is behind the scenes at all times keeping the customer abreast of production and delivery schedules. Each customer is assigned a Customer Service Representative to ensure that they always have a connection to Sampco if they should have any questions or concerns before or after production of their samples.

Here's how it happens:

  1. Initial Design Concept: Usually concepts arrive at Sampco from discussions with our sales and marketing team. Often, however, the genesis of an idea originates from creative discussions between the customer and the sales and/or design staff. The objective is always end-user focused: what does the final customer (our customer's customer) want to know about their product? How is that best presented to them in a timely and cost-effective manner? Invariably, the original concept begins life as an informal written report so that all can agree on the variables and possibilities.

  2. Customer Review: The idea is then presented by sales to Sampco's design team for "brainstorming." The design team includes Creative Services and Engineering Departments. These meetings bring together individuals with many years of expertise in a variety of fields (graphic design, product design, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, production, etc.) and tend to generate innovative solutions. Creative Services and Engineering give both 2-D and 3-D form to the concept, adjusting the idea to fit the realities of both technology, cost considerations and crucial input from the customer. By their very nature, the creative and engineering energies are sometimes at odds but our design team manages to find common ground and merge their ideas. Often the challenge is to decide which of several innovative solutions to choose!

  3. Full-scale Prototyping: Then, with everyone in agreement, prototyping begins. What was once vapor, then paper, now grows to maturity with adjustments along the way guided by customer, creative, engineering and manufacturing input. Generally, if the prototype can be built to everyone's satisfaction, manufacturing will be able to effectively produce the final sample in requested quantities at the best price.

  4. Print Production: Before manufacturing can actually be done there is a pre-press process that must take place. For any printed parts on or relating to the finished sample, Creative Services must design and lay out the graphics, continuing to work with Engineering on problems that may arise if the wrong glue, lamination, material, etc. is used for a particular production process. Then the proofing stage begins with signoffs required from the customer. When everything is signed-off and has been reviewed thoroughly by everyone involved, the printing process begins with Creative Services and/or Engineering overseeing every step, including press checks.

  5. Manufacturing: Once all printing has been completed and all other parts relating to the sample are ready, production begins. Along the way, Quality Assurance scrutinizes every detail at each step of the manufacturing process, from printing to final delivery of the finished product.

  6. Fulfillment/Shipping: Once production is complete, fulfillment/shipping occurs. Sampco can ship partials or full orders depending on the urgency of the customer's needs. We manufacture and ship from our six different plants depending on the location of the customer and the capabilities of that particular plant. Sampco also has the ability to inventory the customer's future needs. Sophisticated job tracking and locator systems insure on-time deliveries.
